The Nurse

Does this only happen to me or to someone else, too?

I had an appointment with a registered nurse only because the doc was not available for that morning when I felt abdominal pain. The nurse was a very nice and patient lady and behaved very confident and competent like a real doc. I was very happy with her. And she sent me to lab tests. Now there came the problem. I didn't go back to the nurse to check the test results but to the doc. That day, when I pushed open the hallway door to the little room, I saw the nurse far away. She gave me a short glance with a very long and sullen face as if I had done something very bad.

I don't know what this is all about? Am I supposed to check test results with whoever sent me to the test? I believe I asked the secretary when I made the follow-up appointment. She said it is okay that I want appointment with the doc.

It turned out that the lab made mistakes and the doc sent me to another test to correct it. Then I understand seeing a doc is really not the same as seeing a nurse.

The other day the secretary called me to go back for the test result and she tried to fix me with the nurse again, because doc's schedule is too full. When I finally changed the appointment to the doc again, I felt guilty. What is going on here? Am I a bad person?

The bottom line is, we pay a lot of money for health insurance and I want the best service I could ever possible have. I want to see doc, not nurse.

If I don't understand this country's "doctor-seeing culture," please, someone kindly tell me.
